Subject 2: Job displacement risks: costs and adjustment dynamics along workers' life-cycle

This research project is about the risk of job displacement and occupational downgrading faced by workers throughout their life cycle. Human capital is a bundle of assets (initial and cumulated) that can be affected by different risks during the working life. At the individual level, job displacement and occupational downgrading is the outcome of human capital destruction and depreciation, due in particular to globalization and technological changes. Analyzing these issues require taking a lifecycle perspective. The objectives are (1) measuring and identifying channels through which economic shocks and job displacement results in occupational downgrading; (2) quantifying the associated welfare costs throughout the life cycle and (3) identifying strategies put forward by workers to cope with these risks and the role of public policies.

The research requires a good background in micro-econometrics, dynamic optimization and a knowledge and openness to labor market issues.
