The regulation on bank resolution is moving from a bail-out process –where public money is used to rescue a distressed institution– to a bail-in process –where regulators are granted the authority to force bank recapitalization from within the institution. The bail-in process originates a discrimination between bank debt which is subject to forced recapitalization and other debt. This empirical project aims at quantifying the impact of bail-in regulation on bank borrowing practices.
